The Sleeping Soldier
From a distance of
about 100 metres , I saw a soldier at work ; he was on guard.
Seated
on a chair, in a place where two roads met he was dressed like a soldier who knew his onions
His
uniform fascinated me: On his head, was this brazen-iron cast protective
helmet. He wore a shirt whose colour camouflaged or blended with the bushy
surrounding. A bullet proof jacket
protected his precious chest. His trouser, tidy as they were, were held in place by a “military” belt. The
end of his trousers were also tucked into a well laced pair of boots. These
boots were so much polished that they shone in the broad daylight.
And
loosely clutched on his lap was an
automatic rifle-powerful enough to blow
off the head of an enemy within a 200 metres range . But he was dozing!
In
his consciousness state, one man and another at different times tip toed passed
him. The men were careful not to wake him up. If they did they would be dead.
The men were thieves, yet they passed by is nose and he didn’t know.
Another thing; as I watched this incident, I
perceived that the soldier was very lucky. At least none of the thieves though
it wise to snatch his gun or break his head. Then I fancied his stars, his luck
,his grace…..
Then
at a flash I decided to move nearer to him. Close enough to see his face, I
bent slightly to know whom this lucky
man was. Without much trouble I know him instantly: I
was the man!
Then
I woke up: I have been in a dream!
The
lesson I learned was obvious: though still dressed in the garment of
righteousness , he was not safe. Are you are a sleeping Christian? Wake up! Otherwise your rifle would amount without the prayer that keeps us at
alert.
The
question now is, if the sleeping soldier is not safe, where does the sinner
stand?
